Vintage Montblanc
Before the Meisterstück became a cultural institution and before the white star became one of the world's most recognised luxury symbols, Montblanc was producing extraordinary writing instruments that are only now receiving the collector attention they have always deserved.
Vintage Montblanc pieces, generally those produced before 1970, represent a different philosophy of pen making entirely. Built from early celluloid and hard rubber materials that are no longer in production, filled by lever, button, and vacuum mechanisms that predate the modern cartridge and converter system, and finished at a time when every pen passed through the hands of skilled workers individually - vintage Montblanc occupies its own world.
The Pen Collective's vintage collection is put together with particular care. Vintage pens require specific knowledge to assess correctly. Hard rubber oxidation, celluloid shrinkage, sac condition, nib spread and alignment - these are all factors we examine and disclose. Condition grades on vintage pieces reflect age-appropriate wear honestly, and any restoration work that has been performed is disclosed in full.
Vintage Montblanc pieces appeal to collectors who want something that cannot be purchased new at any price. A piece of the brand's history, in a material and configuration that no longer exists in production. Every vintage pen we carry is a document of Montblanc's history.
