Montblanc Great Characters James Dean Limited Edition 1931 Fountain Pen 117892
The Montblanc Great Characters Limited Edition 1931 James Dean Fountain Pen 117892 is a new old stock piece. It has never been inked or written with. Original factory stickers remain in place on the silver barrel and tip. The sterling silver barrel carries surface tarnish consistent with extended storage - a natural and entirely reversible characteristic of silver that does not affect the pen's integrity or writing performance in any way. The pen is sold in an ''as is'' condition.
The barrel is 925 sterling silver decorated with a special engraving pattern referencing the front grille of James Dean's beloved Porsche 550 Spyder - the car he called "Little Bastard" and in which he died in 1955. The cap is covered in dark brown precious wood, referencing the scene in "Rebel Without a Cause" in which Dean wielded a switchblade - the writing instrument body itself takes the shape of that switchblade. The clip is ruthenium-plated and formed in the shape of a shotgun, a direct reference to the famous firefight scene in "Giant", Dean's final completed film. The fittings are ruthenium-plated throughout. The cap closes via screw mechanism.
The nib is an 18k 750 solid gold nib with platinum plating in Medium size. The pen fills via piston mechanism and has not been inked. It writes as new and accepts bottled ink only, not cartridges or converters.
This edition is limited to 1931 pieces worldwide - the year of James Dean's birth. Each pen carries its individual edition number engraved on the barrel. Every design decision on this pen references a specific moment, object, or characteristic of Dean's life and work. It is sold out at retail worldwide and cannot be purchased through any authorised Montblanc retailer.
This pen comes complete with its original Montblanc box and papers.
